Emotional intelligence and performance
evaluation
Performing successfully in difficult tasks in important
situations often involves having control intense and
sometimes unpleasant emotions. We tend to feel intense
emotions when successful performance is perceived to be
of personal importance. Examples of tasks could include
performing a task of critical importance (e.g., a pilot flying a
plane, a surgeon performing an operation) or a task of
personal importance (e.g., an athlete trying to win an
Olympic medal, a manager giving a presentation to a board
of directors)
